Community Service

Rotary Club of Uptown Dallas Causes
We are neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in the Dallas community and around the world. Rotary Club of Dallas Uptown works to address our local communities' toughest challenges

We also join efforts with Rotary Clubs around the world providing support  in six areas: promoting peace, preventing diseases, providing access to clean water and sanitation, enhancing maternal and child health, improving basic education and literacy, and helping communities develop. We are especially dedicated to ending polio in our lifetimes. Rotary members have persevered in this fight since 1979 and have now helped eradicate polio in all but three countries worldwide. Here's a few of our efforts:

Dictionary Project
Rotary Club of Dallas Uptown with the help of a matching grant funds and distributes over 1700 dictionaries to Uptown Dallas area third grade classes.  We deliver the dictionaries and present them to each school and their students.  The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn.

Rotary District 5810 Humanity in Motion Gala
Rotary Club of Dallas Uptown has played a leadership role in this annual event to support the work of the Rotary Foundation. Two of our members have served as recent co-chairs of the gala and many of us have volunteered and provided leadership for the event’s committee.

Camp Ryla
Rotary Club of Dallas Uptown interviews and funds two students to attend Camp Ryla. Our club provides two scholarships each year, one inspired by and funded by club member, Alicia Slay, the A. Slay Annual RYLA Scholarship, and the other by the members of Uptown.  The clubs of District 5810 provide scholarships for over 180 high school juniors to participate in the six-day leadership camp. At the end, the most common review by campers proclaimed it a “life changing“ experience. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs across the globe.

Promise House
Promise House embraces homeless, runaway and at-risk youth, giving them needed support, encouragement and hope to live a better life. Our club supports Promise House fundraising events and we also organize an annual game and pizza night with Promise House youth.

Hope Cottage
Rotary Club of Dallas Uptown supports Hope Cottage through our Hope in a Bottle fundraiser.  The fundraiser is a silent and live auction event at a local wine venue. Hope Cottage in a non-profit providing adoption and pregnancy support services in North Texas.

Montrel Living
Montrel Living works to support mentally handicapped veterans, civilians and homeless in the Dallas area. After noticing a lack of housing specifically for veterans and the mentally ill, Montrel Living was created to provide those in need with an opportunity to have transitional and supportive housing as a means to help them get back up on their feet and taken care of. Rotary Club of Dallas Uptown has supported Montrel Living the past few years and most recently collected food and prepared Thanksgiving Dinner for the residents of Montrel Living.

District Collaboration
We work in collaboration with Rotary leaders throughout our district on various projects throughout the year.
